Performing Umrah is a deeply spiritual journey, and your prayers from the moment you leave home play a significant role in making this experience meaningful. Here’s a step-by-step system of prayers from home to Jeddah to ensure your heart and mind stay connected with Allah.
Before Leaving Home
Begin with the dua for traveling (Dua al-Safar). Say,
“بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ”
(In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah; there is no power or might except with Allah).
This ensures your journey starts with the remembrance of Allah and trust in His protection.
Wearing Ihram and Making Niyyah (Intention)
Before reaching the Miqat (the boundary where Ihram is obligatory), men wear the two pieces of white cloth, and women wear modest, plain clothing. Offer two units of prayer (nafl), then make your intention for Umrah by saying,
“لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ عُمْرَةً”
(O Allah, here I am for Umrah).
Recite the Talbiyah Frequently
From the moment you enter Ihram, continuously recite the Talbiyah:
“ لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ. إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ.”
This declaration of submission should remain on your tongue throughout the journey to Jeddah.
General Supplications During Travel
While traveling, engage in constant dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and dua. Ask for ease, forgiveness, and acceptance of your Umrah. The journey itself is an opportunity for deep connection with Allah.
Arrival in Jeddah
Upon landing, thank Allah for a safe journey. Say, “Alhamdulillah” and make dua for ease in completing the next steps of your pilgrimage. You are now one step closer to fulfilling this sacred act of worship.
By keeping your heart focused and your prayers constant, you ensure that every moment of your Umrah journey is filled with blessings and spiritual growth.
