Events in the First Ashra of Ramadan in Makkah & Madina

The first ten days of Ramadan, known as the “Ashra of Mercy” are very special for Muslims. In Makkah and Madina this time is full of spiritual activities and community events.

Dua for first Ashra:

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ
“My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of the merciful.” (Surah Al-Mu’minun: 118)

Hadith about magfirah:

مَنْ صَامَ رَمَضَانَ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ

“Whoever fasts during Ramadan out of faith and seeking reward, all his past sins will be forgiven.” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 38)

In Makkah, thousands of people gather at Masjid-Al-Haram for Taraweeh prayers, led by famous Imams. Many perform Umrah, as it is believed to bring extra blessings during Ramadan. Large iftars meals are arranged daily, where everyone, including visitors and locals, is served free food.

In Madina, Masjid Al-Nabawi becomes a peaceful place for worship, people pray Taraweeh, visit the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) tomb, and listen to lectures about Ramadan. Quran recitation circles are also held to help people understand the teachings of Islam.

Both cities see acts of charity, where food and water are shared with needy. The atmosphere in these holy cities during the first ashra is full of kindness, prayer, and reflection, helping Muslims feel closer to Allah.
